1st HYDROPLANE

Late December 2005, THS purchased a Kelson - wood hull - raced as a 2.5L stock for 2-1/2 years - sold it back to - Dennis Johnson -  formally known as the Knot Rod.

   

   

   

 

KELSON - HISTORY

June 8, 2008, spoke with Henry Kosciuszko - 2nd boat owner, got the following details... Don Cameron - 1st owner.  Boat was built around 1982-83 as the S-74 Island Girl.  Jim Lucero - designed the boat, Bill Muncey - Crew Chief, Mike Hansen, former O'boy O'berto driver - builder.  Cameron owned for a couple of years before selling it to Kosciuszko.  From Kosciuszko, it sold to Jim Miller - first to use 2300cc motor.  Miller is Mark Weber's cousin.  In 1985, with Henry (Hank) as the owner, the boat was known as the S-32 Bad Habit - Yellow and gold in color.  Hank stated his 2000cc motor weighed 285 lbs while the boat weighed 500 lbs totaling 825 lbs.  Carter Parish of Marine Technologies made the skid fin.  Came with a 16" rudder, 4" strut, then later added 3" Balcer shoes.  Adding to the list of owners is Beth & Kevin Gilday, Dennis Johnson, myself (Tom Bergman), and back to Dennis Johnson in 2010.

   

   

   

   

   

   

   

2nd HYDROPLANE

Late July 2008, purchased a '91 Auld - composite hull - Myron Jackson's StarTrooper.  We only raced at Celina and Rocky Fork - only 3-4 heats. This 2.5L stock hydroplane is currently FOR SALE.

   

   

   

   

OTHER HYDRO RIDES

Rocky Fork 2006, rookie year - Mike Cashin asked me to test his 5L Hedden - wood hull.  Raced it Saturday during the qualifier and final - On Sunday, spun prop shaft from coupler during the qualifier.

   

2009, necessary repairs were done to the Hedden.  It was displayed at Evansville's Thunder on the Ohio.  We raced Walled Lake, Waterford, Alum Creek, & Rocky Fork as a 5L/NM.  By end of season... it sold.  It currently runs the Vintage Circuit.

   

   

     

Waterford 2011, began racing the Gibb's A-8 - wood hull.

   

Celina 2011, drove Dean Armstrong's E-76 Sum-R-Fun. Transom mishap!

   

2012 Season - racing the A-8 Insanity for Mike Cashin - Placed 3rd's at Walled Lake, MI - Walled Lake Thunder.  Waterford, MI - Quake on the Lake 'World Championships' - Won World's on Sat and 3rd on Sun.

   

 

3rd HYDROPLANE

Mid-October 2009, inspected the the UL-89 for Cashin to purchase - Strongly suggested a pass - Received the boat for repairs - after months of tear down - began merger of teams.  June 2012, accepted offer to purchase other share.  Currently awaiting completion of motor and remaining boat repairs.
